Diesel in a petrol car, or the other way — we come and take it

It happens on the quiet forecourts as much as the busy ones. If you have not started the engine, stay put. If you have, stop as soon as it is safe. Driving it ‘just to the next junction’ is how a drain becomes an engine.

On the ground

What people ask

I have not started it. Can I just siphon it?

Do not start improvising on a forecourt. Stay with the car. We will tell you whether it is a recovery to a drain or something simpler. Guessing with a tube is how you make it worse.

I drove a mile.

Stop. That mile matters. Tell us. The workshop that drains it needs to know whether fuel reached the rails.

Will you drain it on the forecourt?

Not as a kerbside stunt. Wrong fuel is a recovery to the right place, not a show in front of the kiosk.
